Lawn Mowing

It is important to mow your lawn on a regular basis. Regular lawn mowing helps grass stay healthy & strong, and it keeps the blades at the ideal height for photosynthesis and nutrient absorption. Regular mowing also ensures the grass grows evenly throughout your yard and that the blades are all getting the correct amount of nutrients.

Whether you own a commercial or residential property, a professional lawn care service can handle the task of maintaining and manicuring your grass. At C.H. Ground Control, I work hard to provide outstanding results in every situation. I'm dedicated to satisfying the needs of my customers and you'll get personalized service when you enlist my support.

Aeration

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AERATION?

Core aeration can help make your lawn healthier and reduce its maintenance requirements through these means:

  • Improved air exchange between the soil and atmosphere.

  • Enhanced soil water uptake.

  • Improved fertilizer uptake and use.

  • Reduced water runoff and puddling.

  • Stronger turfgrass roots.

  • Reduced soil compaction.

  • Enhanced heat and drought stress tolerance.

  • Improved resiliency and cushioning.

  • Enhanced thatch breakdown.

Dethatching/Power Raking

Why Dethatch?

Thatch can keep water and air from reaching the soil and, if left untreated, can create an environment that harbors pests and diseases. Dethatching removes those layers of dead grass, roots and debris matted between the soil and the growing grass, keeping the grass greener and healthier while minimizing the chance of disease.

It is important to note that it is ok to have a thatch layer of about a 1/2 inch. Dethatching may only be needed every few years depending on how you mow and irrigate your lawn.

Irrigation

When watering an established lawn, it’s typically recommended to water until the top 6 to 8 inches of soil (where most turfgrass roots grow) is wet. Most lawns need 2 to 3 inches of water per week—either from rain or watering—to soak the soil that deeply. That amount of water you apply should be put down in at least 1/2-inch increments.

If you find your lawn has taken on a grayish cast or appears to be dull green, it’s telling you that it needs water. You can also check your lawn by walking on it: If your footprints don’t disappear quickly, it’s because the grass blades don’t have the needed moisture to spring back. While it may seem like you can head out to water your lawn anytime during the day, your lawn actually needs more specific care. Watering in the morning (before 10 a.m.) is the best time for your lawn; it’s cooler and winds tend to be calmer so water can soak into the soil and be absorbed by the grass roots before it can evaporate. If you must water in the evening, try between 4 and 6 p.m. which should give the grass blades time to dry before nightfall. The later you water, the greater chance of disease becoming prevalent in your lawn.

Start-Up

Irrigation start-up is performed in the months of April and May.

Repair

Irrigation repair is done on an as needed basis. We can repair or replace sprinklers, PVC lines, valves and control systems.

Blow-Outs

This service is performed at the end of every mowing season usually starting around mid-October.

Clean Up

A typical property cleanup includes pulling weeds, trimming bushes, and leaf cleanup. Most of our customers have an early spring cleanup to get their property in shape for summer and cleanup winter storm debris. Then, in late fall we will do another cleanup to cut back bushes, cleanup fallen leaves, and get the plants and property ready for winter.
It is important to remove leaves and pine needles from your lawn so that they don’t decompose and damage the grass. During the cleanups, we will make sure that all the foliage is trimmed away from the home's gutters and siding. This helps prevent rodents or insects from making their way into your house.
